Buried Alive

BURIED ALIVE

You're six feet under, trapped in earth

In a coffin you've been building since birth,

And everyday you lose more air,

And everyday the less you care.

 

There's not even a glimmer of light

And you're slowly losing the will to fight,

Because everyone who asked if you were okay

Never really listened to what you would say.

 

And now you're sinking all alone,

Heart and soul melting down to bone,

Surrenduring yourself to the hell you're in,

Realizing that you'll never win.

 

So take my hand and take a spade

And dig yourself out of the grave you've made,

Because life is here to bury us all,

But it's up to you to take the fall.

Author's Note

I feel like I've been buried so many times, but I'm the type of person who can find the exit out of the coffin. It's much worse for those who simply adapt to their hell.

This is going in my favorites! A great poem. I love your rhyme scheme. Try reading it aloud, though and you'll find the few kinks. Ex. "Surrenduring yourself to the hell you're in, Realizing that you'll never win." The "you'll" would flow better with out being contracted "you will." Powerful message, we've all been there, but I like the mature sound of this poem. Great work!

I have soo been there. Like you I kept digging myself out only to find myself in another one. For the first time in my life I am actually in a position where it is no longer like that. Keep going and don't give up hope. As Eddison said "I always knew I would succeed, because I knew that if I am careful not to repeat the same mistake, I will finally run out of wrong ways to do it and so find the right one".
