Only in my dreams

Only in my dreams

A Poem by A.G Franke

He wakes up with an indictable happiness in his head.

But then he realizes it was only a dream. For he’s alone in his bed.

Tears flood his pillow, as he remembers that last words she said.

For it tears at his heart and makes it bleed bright red.

He and her were together last night but only while he was asleep and dreaming.

She was his everything, the target of his spotlight beaming.

He misses her elegance, her bliss.

But every morning hurts more and more.

Every night he sees her at in his house but, wakes up before he can open his door..

He want’s to talk to here but heaven doesn’t have phone.

So he cries in his bedroom all alone.

He doesn’t talk to anyone, a heart turning to stone.

He loves to go asleep, but dreads to awake.

For this is when his happiness reality takes.

His mind it shakes.

He starts to get angry at life, not longer so confident, not nearly as bold...

as the horrid diseases starts to take his mind and spread its terrible mold

As he remembers her heart of gold, her kindness and beauty untold..

He doesn’t know what to do or what to say.

These dreams go on and on, day after day.

Days turn into weeks.

After each one he’s more sad and more weak..

He loved her for fifty long years, and she’s still in his heart.

Till he fulfilled his vow, till death do we part.

He can’t take it anymore, he’s going insane.

Can’t take awakening in morning ,

can’t take the pain.

He’s happy in his dreams, but he wakes up in vain.

He’s losing it. No longer can self-substain.

So day after day when he goes to bed,

To relive the day his wife he did wed.

In his dreams world as it twirls,

He can't help but thinking: She is the best of all girls.

As his dreams continue though the turns of the season.

His eyes water for the same, heartbroken reason.

Dreams day after day now it’s been a whole year.

It now impossible for him to cry another tear.

He thinks of how beautiful she was, the angels to be like her must lust.

But his time is going too soon, in God he trusts.

For soon it will be time for him to enter his eternal sleep.

It’s sounds costly, but for him it is not a price that is not steep.

For he will see her then but not in his dreams.

It will be in reality all as it seems.

But for tonight he is still alive and soon his wife he will see.

But only tonight in his dreams can he be.

Thanks for all the reviews everyone! Btw for those of you who wanted to know, the inspriatoin for this actally did come from personal expericne! But not in the way I put it. When I was a young man in 8th grade I had my first realatonship with a girl who I thought was it. (don't we all think that the first time) It was one of those innocent realtionships, we talked on the phone all the time, but would hardly talk in person. Besides when I actlly say her beaucse she lived 1/2 hr away. We would sit like a foot apart, and I'd hardly give her a hug when I saw her. Anyway as you would epect it did't last and I was

I'm reviewing this, because I read this through a second, time, and I loved it just the same. Even without my assistance (hee-hee) this is an AMAZING piece! I'm curious as to where you found the inspiration to grasp the idea for this piece. It's SO good! Props to you
(it's Allie, btw :D)

Very emotional and raw feeling. You know I'll say something about the grammar, spelling and punctuation . . . :-)

I enjoyed. A narrative of how one must feel who's mate has passed first. I hurt so much for these people. Excellent A.G.

My parents were married for 58 years. Since my father passed, dreams are all that my mother has left. She says they seem so real. All and all you did a great job with this one. I am assuming it is not from personal experience. Yet it has a quality of knowing grief for yourself.
