But A Dream

But A Dream

A Poem by Pestonjee
"

Dreams are lies

"

Dreams as clear as glass

On crystal blue lakes

You on the other side

Of a lost forever daybreak

Telling me the impossible

Will always be beautiful

Its colors will never fade

Mislaid memories as fawns

Flutter awake at dawn

Rousing Morpheus’s curse

In a witch’s tinted mirror

Where it’s all in reverse

I run away from you

To stay tethered to you

I lose you to find you

On chessboard journeys

To the middle of nowhere

You on a train to somewhere

That I can never catch

In a hypnotic rush or dash

You roll away, fleeting as a spell

Life, what is it but a dream?

Love is over in a flash

As someone that can snooze through an Earthquake, dreams are not something that I can relate to. I never have them, such is my state of deep sleep, but many do have dreams and quite often they are mixed fragments of both subconcious and concious thoughts. Your poem certainly reads like a dream in itself. The loosely flowing rhyme and lines are very suitable to your theme. Your dream here seems to question the promises and words of another. They seem as foggy as a morning mist and the poet cannot seem to grasp these promises no matter where he chases them. Should he listen to the dream and follow the dream or accept it for just what it is and go on living his reality? It's a deep poem, P, and one that needs some serious consideration to interpret. Much as dreams do themselves. I enjoyed the poem with its literary references and its own dreamlike quality of style. It's a most interesting poem, dear, P. Much enjoyed, as always! :))

I am inclined to think, if relating to love didn't take place, neither would poetry.
Dreaming is my thing, usually enjoyably.
I don't mind dreaming. it is the waking up at 3:00AM thingy that's not too much fun
Keep on dreamin

love is over in a flash...and yet we keep chasing it...in our dreams, in our wakes...
as Billy Preston sang "will it go round in circles?"
I guess it does...we chase our tails in love, like dogs chase theirs.
do we ever catch them? almost, not quite...
love is rarely caught as well.
love the metaphor i see in this...

Indeed sir...love is rarely caught. Thank you very much for the kind comments. Means much!
I always believed that those who live their life as a dream -
they exist on a different level
They see things with their heart
And are humane

Realities can remove that element of humanity from our souls
Beautiful write :)

Love is something that seems to make poets rise to their highest in imagery. This offering is full of them. Really liked the caveat provided by the unique last line.

Strangers...
You won't believe that I recalled your first poem on this site when I read this... walls and obstacles between two souls... whatever we expect are nothing but dreams.. and dreams rarely come true. There's a certain bonafide quality in your writing for which they sit in my mind even if I read them for once. In dreams I see flashy images or acts and at times they provide excessively real feel.
As Jamila said, snoozing through an earthquake, this exactly happened to me. 'Twas 4.7 on richter scale and I was sleeping like an intoxicated figure. Yet dreams do irk me!
Real write, Jee👐

Dreams are so trippy and they never make sense. Scenes end, scenes blend. Life and love are kinda crazy like that too. Reality is at times stranger than fiction after all. And this poem here sounds like a bad case of crossed signals.

Id swear Edgar Poe was traipsing about in your dreams that might Mr. Pennywriter:) The voice in this is a blend of obscurity and revelation in the gradual unfolding of its lines I like the meld of subtle subconscious murmur in the gentle lines of rhyme it makes for a nice conduction to the reader of the foggy clarity of that half wake state... very well done

I often dream as clear as glass, and feel emotion too. At times I have woken up with a smile on my face and once or twice have woken up crying. Yes, dreams can feel like lies can't they? I have to say on more than one occasion I have been thankful to wake up when I did. This poem is beautifully conveyed, with rich imagery. Yes love can be over in a flash, but your dreams will tell you otherwise. Dreams can be mischief makers. Really pleasant read Pestonjee.

"Dreams as clear as glass on crystal blue lakes....", it's a lovely image and one i wish happened in my dreams since mine are always murky and shrouded in mist. I have always found dreams to be odd and never really any indication of what lies ahead. Maybe because I have never understood them. I like your references scattered throughout, particularly of Morpheus, the son of sleep and a god of sleep and dreams. It's a well selected reference. At the least your dreams are not nightmares. A fine contribution, Pestonjee.
