Shopaholic

A Poem by Ambra Celeste

Shopaholic

Flipping through fashion magazines your desire is compelled to increase
You are starving to feed your needs
Those needs that always scream at you…I want that dress and shoes too!
Scavenging for funds and determined to succeed
You will get exactly what you wish
As you walk to your favourite shop, adrenaline takes control
You find yourself running to the store
People are better not getting in your way
You are ready to elbow them away
The subtle light and perfumed scent welcome you into the outlet
Warm feelings envelope you as you approach the prohibited fruit
Slipping into the dream dress makes you feel like a Princess
As you wear the shiny shoes, the stinging pain gives you a clue
Your feet will want to get out of there soon
The throbbing of your feet won’t deter your aim
The objects of your desire you are there to claim
Walking down the busy street feeling happy and at ease
Ignoring the real needs that you are trying to fulfil
Failing to recognise what your heart truly speaks
Soon happiness will fade away
And you will do the same all over again
‘Feed your addiction’ is what you read
On the bus that passes your street
You are still ready for more…what are you truly craving for?

almost like Adam and Eve craving the fruit from the tree of knowledge....we get a thirst for it, and just can't quell the craving.
