Balloon

Balloon

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Balloon

Pulling out hairs

not as glamorous,

as sipping champagne

at bonfires

on black sand beaches.

The balloon of skin

at the bitter end

is pale,

and it must be feminine

by now;

tossed aside

to lay beside

the eye shadow inside

every makeup box

in America.

And an eyelash twists

in the sparkling wine,

rimmed in shades of plum.

Making the grape smile

in the flickering light.
