Lisa and Abby

Lisa and Abby

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Lisa And Abby

I drove for hours to see her;

put on my favorite skirt,

new tights,

and fresh lipstick,

yet still I was not prepared.

I was expecting

the girl I knew,

but it was a woman

who answered the door.

Though her smile was the same.

And she invited me in,

made me coffee

showed me to my room.

Taller than I remembered

and sweeter still,

I have not felt comfort like that in years-

perhaps my whole life.

We talked for hours

over halibut and wine,

milk duds and sour skittles,

as the television sat silent in the corner,

it didn’t have a use here.

And I cried when I left,

the visit over,

the pictures taken,

our past exposed.

I was sad absolutely

that I could not stay another minute,

or another lifetime,

but it may have been a new beginning.

At least,

I hope it is.
