Limping Through Lunch

Limping Through Lunch

A Poem by Abigale LeCavalier

Limping Through Lunch

She was limping

when she crossed the bar,

smiling through the pain,

“now don’t you look so cute!”

I had to blush,

“cute” is a word I seldom heard,

and never from a woman.

That changed a year or so ago,

and reflections tell me why,

in the water

or mind.

A better representation

of mud,

spread across

not so smooth a surface,

but with exceptional skill.

All I could think

was how happy I was she was there,

and how lunch ended a little too soon,

for me anyway.

I walked her to her car,

I would have carried her

if she had asked.

Just like she carried me.
