What am I?

What am I?

A Poem by Abhishek Ram

A bird without a nest, a human that cannot rest,

A teacher giving a test, a dog making a mess,

All of those come to mind.

A salad without dressing, a problem full of guessing,

A lunatic with insane obsessing, a man not feeling God’s blessing,

Feelings that will not be left behind.

A leg broken in a cast, a sailor falling off the ship’s mast,

Humanity standing aghast, thinking of the regretful past,

Feelings that cannot be kind.

A broken mirror is a heart's reflection, a lonely walker in the wrong direction,

A monument to pain coming to erection, the destroyed human barely full of connections,

Oh how could I have been so blind?

A book full of no story, a soldier returning from war with no rightful glory,

A mother who will not worry, sex that is truly statutory,

How can I be this way?

A family destroyed by war and disease, His kingdom makes Him displeased,

Man cannot appease, His anger cannot/will not cease,

Is this what I am everyday?

Light travels away from me, a black hole failing purposefully,

Pain as far as the eye can see, relentless no matter how much I plea,

No longer human, but a toy with which people can play?

Lain like ruins do I rest my weary head, choosing to fight tomorrow instead,

Sleep I do in my bed, die and give up do I not, I will not be bled,

Toyed with for long enough, but I cannot be driven away this way: instead I shall fight and stay.
