Deaf is the Night

A Poem by Abraxasbird
"

Agonizing wavelengths

"
Deaf is the night.
I've been holding my breath for so long..
I'm becoming weak, I can't hold it in any longer
... I release the long awaited deep sigh,
trying so hard to refrain from breathing in.
But the pause only lasts a second.

The pain begins anew inhaling
As the air consumes my lips,
My throat, my lungs.
It's sweltering,
The air is on fire;
The sky, the air, the trees, the earth, my skin, my blood
And in my heart, where my blood pools, The fire pops electric

I've been burning so long, with this yearning so strong,
for those long held breaths to hold till dawn...
At night all there is, is the light of my searing skin
lit aglow my billows of flames that engulf every single
molecule of oxygen, every square inch of my being,
through to the smallest cells of my soul,
where nerve endings snap, crackle, and ignite

Though dry tears would fall from withered eyes
The sun, here tonight, with its all encompassing light,
at the very least, would be burning too
