Chapter 20

Chapter 20

A Chapter by Ahmad Cox

After Rebecca had her conversation with Alice it seemed as if her weekend just flew by. She felt as if Saturday came and  left without much happening and Sunday seemed to do the same. It wasn't until she was heading for her first class that she ran into  Ashley in the hallways. Rebecca almost couldn't  believe her luck. The last time she had seen or talked to Ashley was when she was putting her in her place and  she had almost forgotten about Ashley up till  that point but now she was right in front of her. Rebecca almost  began to give out a little cry to herself because the last person she wanted to deal with first thing in the morning was her

She was half hoping that Ashley would not notice her as she was passing by and she  almost got her wish until she saw Ashley make eye contact  and say Rebecca under her breath. It was then that Ashley began to walk toward Rebecca. White Ashley was waking closer Rebecca couldn't help but think, Now what does she want. I can't imagine it's anything good. It would just be my luck I am having to deal with this first thing in the morning.

When Ashley got close enough for Rebecca to hear she said we  need to talk. I have to go to class now but maybe we can talk after and with that said she began to walk to her class and away from Rebecca. All Ashley managed to do was to make Rebecca even more confused then she already felt and it left her with an uneasy feeling in her stomach as she entered her first class for the day.

One of the first things Rebecca noticed when she stepped in the class was just how few people were  left in the class from Wednesday when she last took the class. Dr. Haraday must have noticed the same thing because he just looked up from his desk and began to shake his head as he started to take attendance for the day. It was after he went through the last name on the attendance sheet that he began to speak.

He started off by saying I want to thank the people that took the time to make it out to class today and as for the rest of the students who did not they are missing out on an extra 10 points I was planning on giving to anyone who actually took the time to come to class today. Make sure to keep this between us. I think you will soon find that I don't mind rewarding people who actually show up and do as I ask them to. But if you make it a habit of not showing up or not turning in your assignments on time you will ultimately miss out.

But with all that said I also wanted to reward the people who came to class by letting you guys go early. We can always just go over our planned lesson for the week on Wednesday. With that announcement the class began to fill out but all Rebecca could think about was what Ashley wanted to talk to her about. She was almost dreading going back to her dorm but she knew she couldn't keep putting it off so she decided to go to her room and hope that Ashley wasn't there yet.

When Rebecca made it back to her room Ashley was already sitting on her bed. As soon as Ashley saw Rebecca enter the room the first thing she said was I am sorry if I was being a little cryptic but I wanted to get the chance to set things straight. First off I wanted to say I am sorry for being so mean to you when we first met. I have been doing a lot of thinking and I think I automatically wrote you off and automatically assumed we wouldn't get along. I think part of it has to do with the fact that I had already decided that I wouldn't like it here and I would only have Angel that I knew from high school  so I think no matter who was my roommate I would have decided I did not like them but I know that is not fair to you.

Ashley took a deep breath as if she was letting go of something before continuing. Once she did she replied I would really like it if we could start over again. I also realize that might be hard considering the last conversation we had but I have also had a long time to think about it and I really do think we can be friends if we try because I really don't want to spend the rest of the time fighting with you so if you are willing to call a truce I don't mind seeing if we can make a new start and even if we don't become best friends at least we don't have to keep fighting each other.

It was at that point that Rebecca said I have to admit I was automatically thinking that you were going to say something negative or mean when you first stopped me this morning but in some ways I think I had written you off as well but if that is  really what you want then I  don't mind calling a truce as well and like you said even if we don't become best friends at least we can be civil with each other to where we aren't fighting all the time. I  have to admit I think it would be exhausting spending the whole time we are roommate's fighting.

As Rebecca was finishing her sentence Alice came and knocked on the door and asked if Rebecca didn't mind coming to lunch with her. Rebecca began to turn to Ashley and ask if she had managed to get anything yet for the day. When Ashley said no she hadn't Rebecca went ahead and asked Alice if she didn't mind if Ashley joined them for lunch. Alice just gave Rebecca a funny  look as Ashley said that is OK if you guys just want to go together I can always just get lunch some other time.

It was then that Rebecca replied by saying I really want you to come with us Ashley. I know things might not have started off so good with us but I am willing to try if you are. Alice began to look at Rebecca again as she also looked at Ashley Alice was trying to see just how serious Rebecca was about trying to be friends with Ashley. When she could look into her friends eyes and tell she was sincere she decided to give Ashley a chance as well. As long as Ashley didn't give Alice any extra reasons not to like her Alice could deal with having her around and if Rebecca was willing to forgive Ashley and start on a good foot she could at least give Ashley the shadow of a doubt.

As they began to set their trays up and head to their  rooms Alice couldn't help but laugh to herself as she saw Rebecca and Ashley head to their dorm room together. She couldn't help thinking that they made an odd couple but if anybody could make friends with their mortal enemy it was her friend Rebecca. Alice decided at that point that she would give Ashley a fair try as well and even if her and Ashley didn't become best friends like her and Rebecca she could at least try to be friends with her.

As Alice was heading into her own dorm room she felt a sense of peace come over her. Somehow she got the feeling that with Rebecca and Ashley getting along with each other things would start getting better for all of them and even though they might all come from different places and might be different in a lot of ways they would still make good friends and Alice knew she would never turn down the chance to make a new friends and maybe all Ashley needed was a little bit of extra love too. It was with this thought that Alice knew she was right and she decided to make it here mission to not only share the love with Rebecca but make sure to save the love with Ashley too.
