My Lot

My Lot

A Poem by Amanda

Incompetence, incompetence

In present times, I’ve no defense

This current lack of common sense

Is nothing but my lot

The lot of scorn upon me fell

And broke apart my simple shell

And rendered present life a hell

For what I seldom sought

I sought a life I couldn’t know

Because I’d never thought to show

An inkling for what lay below

A guise I never fought

And though this guise might prove to hide

A wretched flaw, an ugly side

It’s nothing but what can abide

Within the life I’ve bought
