BE

BE

A Poem by Airafh

Seek you what?
For you have a lot;
A mother to care
A father to no compare;
A roof on your head
To sleep a soft bed;
Plenty food on the platter
What else does matter?
Yet you beseech for something more
And immense yourself to find that other door;
Far you may go as you want
The emptiness in you would still haunt;
For happiness is made and never found
Untangle it from the bits and it will always linger around;
Look for it in the utmost simplicity
and never will you find yourself in pity;
And as Tolstoy's words often come to me
" If you want to be happy, BE"

The ever-increasing greediness in humans, I doubt, can ever be cured. Greed is their creed, seriously. Few are those who find joy in the most simplest of things and are never querulous about the thrifty but satisfying lives they live. I loved the theme, and the poem also. Great work!

I really like the way you wrote this uplifting message for someone who might be in the doldrums & not realizing how many things there are to be thankful for, even in the worst of times. Your rhyming is good & your rhythm is mostly good, except for a couple lines that go on a little long & break up the rhythm. But that’s OK, every poem doesn’t need to be perfectly structured. I’d rather see a poem that’s sincere & heartfelt than one which is hammered into a poetic format until it hasn’t anymore life (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Beautifully written poem! Great job writing all the things that matter and express the discontent we so often feel. "For happiness is made and never found..." Great ending as well, flows nicely and hits home the central idea. Really enjoyed this!
