Rose Of Paper

Rose Of Paper

A Poem by Alan S Jeeves
"

Sonnet with envoi at line 13

"
You are alike to a fine paper rose
Perfectly crafted, scarlet and snow white.
Within your eyes the paper rosebud grows
Sanguine and bright, the most beauteous sight.

A petal of white ~ A petal of red
Blend into pink as they shamelessly blush.
Colours of you, how they go to my head,
Remind me of summer, sun kissed and lush.

My paper rose crinkles, held in my palm;
So softly, gently the sound greets my ears.
Retarding my heartbeat ~ tranquilly calm,
As soft as raindrops ~ god's heavenly tears.

Flower of nature must die heretofore
Flower of paper may live evermore.

Hi Alan, I wouldn't know a sonnet from a bonnet but I know good writing which this certainly is.

Hi Gee. Only 14 lines in a sonnet so fairly easy to read. Quite a disciplined write though. I agree .. read more
I still write poems about my first girlfriend in high school....much of this poem describes her and us...
she will always live on paper for each time I write of her.
Magic verse here.

Such a romantic sonnet.....a joy to read. Lyrical and the flow is perfect. Let's hope all of our "flowers" live long after we are gone. Lydi**

Good morning Alan. Lovely to read a well crafted sonnet. Not an easy form to master. I have tried myself without much success.

There is much here to appreciate. The flow and rhyme work beautifully, a fine choice of language and of course the sentiment expressed.

The final couplet is pleasing. Flowers of poetry would certainly like their poems to outlive them.

Nicely done.
