Like a Willow

Like a Willow

A Poem by Alice Patinkin

We had a friendship

It grew like a willow

Reaching down to touch the grass

Reaching out to touch the stars

It tickled our noses

As we sat in the sky

And we, in our summer paradise

Set our Friendship aflame

We delighted in the fires heat

But now we’ve found it charred our skin

We turned our heads as the burn marks blistered

We could not touch

The pain held strong

But deep within

Our Friendship glints

A dewdrop of hope

To heal us

With time as our bandage

Do you feel it?

We have a Friendship

It grows like a willow

Its leaves are deep burgundy

And I sit in the sky

With the Sun in my eyes

And a song in my head

That I wrote just for you

This is a gorgeous piece. I like the contrast of the gritty pain of conflict in the friendship, and the love that prevails.
