Regret

Regret

A Poem by AlinaTheCacti
"

Life is full of ups and downs. When you face your first love and lose them, the thoughts going through your head drive you crazy. Always have one inspiration quote in your head. It'll save you.

"
Perhaps we've all seen this,
But not every soul,
The feeling of distrust,
and the betrayal that was unleashed,

Hearing the pain from your very own friend,
Letting the words sink in,
The feeling of your heart tightening,
the feeling of your ears ringing,

Missing the feeling of companionship,
Wanting the feeling of warmth,
and safety.
While thinking back to the time,
to what have I could've done wrong,
and to deem me of the rights for forgiveness,

Each bite of dinner I take,
brings me back to the first dinner I had,
we were eating the exact order,
but now I'm alone,
eating with the bitter taste,
of emptiness.

Love the comfort your family gives,
but it'll never be the same without him,
The fragrant of sweet maple syrup,
topped with the creamy cream,
slides into your stomach,
and gives you butterflies.

Seeing them together, walking hand in hand,
seeing the glint of joy in each of their glares,
makes me forget the one rule that my mom always told me,
she said it was the most important of them all,
No one can change your future. Only You Can.

Your poem stirs a sense of beautiful melancholy. It is sad and familiar (partly because it is familiar, sa you point out), but leaves the reader with inspirational at the end. Very nice. Thanks for sharing it.

I'm not sure if I've ever really 'loved and lost' per se, I'm too cynical to give someone that much control over my heart I guess, but I do know the pain of losing a friend. I thought the poem was well written, this is coming from someone who absolutely abhors reading poetry, and it seemed like you knew what you were doing/who you were writing for. Can't say I'll be back for more reading on poems, but hey, you scratch my back I'll scratch yours. -- C
