I Do Not Fear the Bogeyman

I Do Not Fear the Bogeyman

A Poem by Zombie Waffle
"

I do not fear the bogeyman. The monster under my bed goes by another name.

"

I do not fear the bogeyman.

The monster under my bed goes by another name.

He does not creep,

Or crawl,

Or bite,

Or stalk my walls.

Neither does he dwell in my closet.

No, my monster is a different beast entirely.

He lives in many places;

In pages,

In pens,

In all the world’s empty spaces.

My terror does not wait for dark to play.

This fiend is content with the bright light of the day

To star in his wicked games.

He pokes,

He prods,

He distracts and provokes.

Who would fear the bogeyman?

When my nightmare dwells with me

Through all my days and nights.

From over my shoulder he whispers to me,

As he plays his depraved games.

And to me he divulged his name,

So that I may know my tormenter.

He spoke with raspy voice,

Close enough to make me shiver.

I do not fear the bogeyman.

I fear a creature far more fearsome.

And he goes by the name of

Writer’s Block.

When I first started reading I was thinking actual monsters like in a child's fairytale but as I finally reached the final line I thought how fitting since writer's block is a monster in its own right. You penned this well and had me glued to the screen.

I do this to entertain, so that's great! ^_^ Thanks.
I cannot stress to you how much I love this. Haha.
A subject that is incredibly easy to relate to, but disguised as something more profound and intriguing until it hits you in the last line. Wonderful. Very, very wonderful. =]

This is brilliant, and very clever! I love the impact of the last line 'writer's Block.' I have to agree with this poem, Writers Block is indeed a deadly foe.
Keep up the awesome work!

"As he plays out his depravity". Just a thought. Play implies games. It's verbose. The last stanza knocks me out. It's pretty fabulous. The nightmare dwelling internally is another terrific line. Great. Very ingenious.

I like your idea! Reading something different and suddenly at the end:
"And he goes by the name of
Writer’s Block."
I feel like this sometimes, but you describe a bogeyman. You're genius buddy :D
I like the ending in the first stanzas:
"He pokes,
He prods,
He distracts and provokes."
Thanks for sharing..Keep it up :D
