Crickets on Main St

Crickets on Main St

A Poem by Allen Smuckler
"

Solo Journey to sweet Virginia...Skyline Drive

"

1

                           listen to the silence of night

                           and the sounds of the crickets;

                           away from the city

                           the strikes and the pickets-

                            2

                           night has fallen

                           on the big meadow

                           children running to and fro;

                           crickets churning

                           gas lights burning,

                           tranquil nighttime

                           here at last.

                           Papst Blue Ribbon

                           near the end;

                           sandman time

                           around the bend.

                         3

                           The Rolling Stones

                           Exile on Main Street

                           Sweet Virginia

                           side one-cut one

                                      right on.....

sounds like a beautiful place to live but I would miss the English rain.

The countryside always diminishes the city, breaking down the boring straight lines and man made structures into blurred beautiful curves and irregualar shapes simple known as natural forms. You truely take the reader on a tranquil visit to your home, Keep em' coming

Thank you for the road trip to Virginia. I like the sounds of the crickets. Create a peace away from the city. You create a nice vision in the excellent poem.

My favorite line:
Papst Blue Rribbon near the end;
Have a Beer?
Fall is around the corner, but all I hear are locusts. :)

I was in Virginia last week . . . a little town called Manassas. It sure was hot.

Enjoyed your words.

and the journey begins and continues. You always seem to take the reader some place new in your poems. Beautiful photo.
Found myself setting out on my deck in the evening listening to those crickets. Then I realize here, those were those darn tree frogs. hahahaha ok ok all joking aside now.
This is such a tranquil setting and a well written poem.
Enjoyed reading this one and relaxing a bit.

A most vivid picture painted here Allen. It speaks to me of a person who watches his world from the fringes of it, perhaps because it's where I am most likely to be found watching from.

You have a great ability to paint pictures with your words. Every poem of yours I read takes me somewhere. I also liked the structure of this poem. It helps the flow of words. Very nicely written!
