queen of hearts

queen of hearts

A Poem by Alpris

her essence
lingers
in the caverns
of my throat ;
i choke back to taste instead the air
around me,

in loose invisible
crimson curls
that would put blood to shame

the lullaby of

her perfume
ripples
she is the gentle dip in which
                                 life matters to me
tighten

around me
             love, and darkness
slides around

my ankles and
                           pulls me deeper

we lean back to test gravity
  her shoulder blade brows
meeting in a frown
beneath my tugging grip

is it that love is weakness
or weakness is
the  rich and aged musk of her skin

my hair

swallowed
her fingers whole

          and my whole being,   hole
                   a crown of sweat
 decorates her hairline

                  melt away
   like the fading cold.

I liked the line about sweat being a crown at the end of this piece. You show her beauty in that moment of passion, and you give us an image that is true and accurate. She isn't a porcelain princess--she lives, she breaths, she makes amazing love. Also, I liked that evanescent simile in the last couplet. I really got that fading and thawing sensation from those lines there. Its good to read you again.
