Yellow Cake & Tears

Yellow Cake & Tears

A Poem by Jerri
"

The following was a quick writing challenge on Gather. Our only inspiration was "Yellow Cake & Tears" and the piece had to be under 500 words.

"

She walked around
Tired and profoundly low
Could they have forgotten?
Surely he would know…

Perhaps it is because of the holiday
She became resound…
If he has forgotten…
He will no longer be around

She marked it on the calendars
She left little notes on the door
Sure her mom knows…
Yet nobody is on this floor.

What is that?
What has she found?
Is that for her?
It is a yellow round.

Yes..they remembered.
Even after all these years
Will he still think..
I am beautiful under all these tears?

Now she will be able
To face the doctor and the fears
She can face tomorrow
And even a few more tears

I think you used the inspiration well.

My only comment would be that the poem seemed to switch tenses, especially stanza two.
