Mama's Chasin' Toads

Mama's Chasin' Toads

A Chapter by Ana Papaya
"

down by the pond

"
~

Mama's chasing toads
over by the pond

she used to chase frogs
'til one day she got stung

and I told her...

Mama!

that
don't
make
one
ounce
of
sense

and she looked at me all serious
 almost like I was

dense

she said

sweet pea
let me give you a piece of old school advice
from a mama who's been around the pond once or twice

I once met a frog who was handsome as could be
and it ain't no lie when I say that he stung me like a bee

every time that frog whipped out his long sticky tongue
I got me a hard smack right there on my bum

So you can go and chase them handsome frogs when you're older
but don't come back here claiming mama never warned ya

I suggest you try finding a nice toad from our pond
a tall one, a short one you really can't go wrong

'cause when you find the right toad
that will answer your call
you'll be loving him forever
with them big warts and all

~

frogs, toads, and nary a prince among them... it’s not the warts so much, it’s the bruises and black eyes and everything else.... why is it that our mommas, our sisters and daughters, going back many millennia, have such a hard time finding an equal love???? Hopefully one day us men will discover how to be human and humane... tell momma to be careful around that pond... they tell us it’s insanity to think doing the same thing over and over hoping for a different result, but I think it might also be the definition of DENSE....

Love your poem Ana for the formatting yes, but for the power it packs

I think the momma here means well but is a bit nuts. :)
Thanks for the great comment!!

No, the different fonts don't make it hard. This was great, as a former frog who converted to toadism, I love it. I would expect nothing less from a Hall of famer, like you.

It was about the coolest poem I've read in a while.
OMG....this is just fantastic, Ana! Wise life advice....do not go after the most handsome, beautiful, best built partner. Go after the one with the biggest heart and the kindest personality. That is the one you will be happy with. Loved the toad/frog comparison here. Truly delightful. Lydi**

Both witty and clever and the message and moral of this little tale is deliciously crafted.

Quite made my day.

I'm glad it made you smile!
Very creative presentation. The different fonts, I think, work just fine. They helped to set the tone for the different sections. The rhyming, even with the unusual format, worked very well. And naturally, Mama spoke words of wonderful wisdom. The frogs don't magically turn into princes; it's getting to know them and being able to see past the rough exterior that makes them beautiful.

Yes. Exactly right.
The font is fine. Finding the right boy toad or girl toad shouldn't be so hard. The one we get along with the best--and the one that doesn't pee in our hand--should be the one we choose. :)

This reminds me of the time I threw a frog down Lorraine's blouse cause I saw it on some dumb TV show. I had a crush on her and thought it would be something funny we could remember and laugh at. The frog peed on her bra. She moved to another state 3 years later. I haven't seen her since. Oh well.

Some logic in these words. Toads rarely change to prince and rarely improve in the beauty department. Thank you dear friend for sharing the fun poem to read.
