My Father was a Fisherman

My Father was a Fisherman

A Chapter by Ana Papaya

~

My father was a fisherman
he took me out to the sea
summers spent ~ on our boat
fishing ~ him and me

we'd catch them by the plenty
some were big and others small
we'd never kept any though
at least not that I can recall

I asked him one day "Papa?
"Please, can't I keep just one?"
he said to me, have patience Ani
one day the right fish will come.

This is another piece of Papaya perfection
on the reality scene, I'm glad you threw them back in but that hook in the mouth is no fun
This layout is a result of re-construction?

......... welcome as ever n always :)
I enjoyed this poem. I liked the father's wisdom. My father did the same. He always tossed the fish back into the lake. Thank you Ana for sharing the amazing poetry.

You are welcome Ana. I liked this poem.
Thats cute. Whenever i fished with my dad, he told me to shut up. I was scaring the fish away with my babbling. Ah, youth. Seriously though, this poem seems to have something for all ages. Its a well written story/poem with many layers. Never settle, but have fun fishing.

Your papa was extremely wise man. Seriously one fine day everything becomes so real & so true. Seems like we all live for that one fine day. Again the awesomeness in the words & simplicity of thoughts.

gulp gulp gulp (fishy sounds) hey "Ani" am I the right one??? er... damn I forgot, it's aquarius not pisces... oh well...
I liked that you reposted this one Papaya, it's just one of those "fish stories" told and retold until it is a whale you caught and released... lol

I used to take my boys fishing (didn't have any girls as I would have taken them too) their minnow catches were always at least a foot long, if not bigger and I didn't have to help them with their stories either.... lol I had given them all my fishing equipment after the ex left and they just left it all sit and never went fishing again... wish they would have though...

a wonderful poem with a morale...

Yes, father knows best! Thank you for reading! :)
What wisdom and delight! Vivid scene captured here that's so real, and what a perfect metaphor.
I fished with my dad too, now Curtis and I do. I asked him what he wanted to do when we go home, he said he wanted to go fishing, take Apollo and Lola (our dogs) to the park and eat a happy meal...lol.
Beautiful inspirational and aspirational poetry xo
