        I am

     a great artist

         painting picture

      upon picture

over top a canvas

           that holds a history

of all the secrets

   that I respond to

with something

beautiful

but meaningless

          to distract you

from seeing

          through the facade

    that is

         my life

the old red herring thrown out to distract from what really is.
And she has too little faith in her own worth to feel she has to do that.

Yes. I hear this was common practice in the old days. Rather than toss the canvas it was painted o.. read more
there is the hidden self which we are afraid to unfold so we often have to wear masks but sometime in one's life you long for the freedom to be who you really are and now is the time to put away the mask and reveal the real you.

it's true what you say, there is a freedom in baring one's self
We all get distracted by beauty. Love the realism behind this piece. Darling.

Thank you again Darling. I appreciate the comment!
Now I'm wondering if everything i ever wrote was a lie.

You are a great artist and I'm over here drawing stick figures.

Well, technically your fictional writing is not lying even though it's not true, it's just fiction. .. read more

Some of it's true, like the one about dropping my phone in the toilet..total autobiography.

I'll have to find that one. :)
YES YES YES!!!! We write poetry and people believe our lives are between the lines, but the truth is much of my poetry is pure fantasy....only the muse knows for sure. Poetry is our shield. As Simon and Garfunkel sang, "I have my books and my poetry to protect me." Wonderful, Ana. Lydi**

Did you know that the integrity of even the most robust canvas becomes compromised under the weight of too much paint or continuous layering. Cheers Rach for the RR.

Yes, true. Weighed down by the very burden which also makes it beautiful. Thanks Starz!
I would think that the artist is using the art to distract others and also themselves which is a great and I think real take on art. this is a fantastic poem you have made.

Hi Tate, thank you very much for your really great comment!
always good. my take is that their might be a sentiment here where the author is referring to themselves . "to distract you', yes you. : )

keep it. : )
awwwwww, F!%K yeah. Love the idea that Both the canvas is us and the painting is painted over, which then makes the beauty take on a different meaning entirely, that you would have had to be there to see. Would totally dig being this artist, with the knowledge of memories of every face painted over, the complete picture unknown to the rest of the world.

I've written and erased 3 reviews so far on your poem.... I really like this poem and feel the hurt in it and the beauty... and think we write our art or paint the things we think beautiful as escape or fantasy (and sometimes the reality) of the way we wish that life, our lives should be... and at times art is also something we hide behind cause we don't want anyone to know who we really are....

I guess the only other thing is your poetry is wonderful no matter the reason why you write it... but I hope the one you are hoping is "distracted", sees the real you, all of you, even whatever blemishes you may have...

sorry not a very good review...
