the things i have fought bravely against

the things i have fought bravely against

A Chapter by Ana Papaya
"

part of a larger story

"
one of these days i'll go back to using the name
    that i was born under
i'll leave this country
find some little european village
and live off milk, bread and eggs
    maybe an occasional salami
i'll stop looking over my shoulder
as i pick figs and apricots from my yard
to thread and hang to dry for the winter
i'll remember the things i survived
some gracefully, others less so
and i'll tell the story of each mark upon my body
so my children and grandchildren will know
          that i was fearless once
as i wrestled sharks and dinosaurs
fought off sea monsters and mutant lizards
and have the marks to prove it

Yes, the tales we tell to hide the truth...
If you're not telling UTTER FABRICATIONS to your grandkids, you're doing it wrong. ;)
And living a lesser life because of it.
You start doing that, AND you add bread, figs and salami into the mix, though?
THAT'S living.

& you'll return ranked with a display of badges stitched. Intriguing. The larger story... eh? I like this one. Produces a healthy sense of curiosity, as well as empowerment.

You're most welcome. (Smile.)
To live simply and humbly like this is a lovely thing to realise. I love the legacy of scars and that to each is a story. Dope writing. R xo

There was a video game element to this that makes me ask, "if you are at less than half power, do you go all the way back to level 1 to get full health or do you just fight the boss now? You wrestled these creatures, you slayed monsters already, Finish it! sorry, this poem made me drift into the poem, it was good.

As always Ana, this is absolutely beautiful. I really liked the imagery this provoked, I too would enjoy living a simple life such as this. To escape the modern world would be a bliss.

Yes It truly does sound very appealing.
The strength that keeps us going will be the strength to make dreams a reality. We rarely get through life without marks on us, yet we hide them like they are a judgement on us and not those inflicting them. There are war wounds, there are life wounds, and there are dreams and destinies to reach. Go get yours.
