cracker jack surprises

and licorice swirls

little puppy dogs

chasing little boys and girls

mommies and daddies

getting merry-go-round dizzy

pop rocking candy

making soda pop fizzy

ice cream cone drippings

melting on toes

kites flying high

as the wind blows

summertime kisses

on bubblegum lips

i sure miss those days

when we were just kids

All those golden oldies of our youth; stripping down to our undies then jumping in the stream; playing baseball in the street while dodging passing cars; collecting soda bottles to make the money for our candy treats; and so much more...

isn’t it funny though how we forget the difficulties and pain.... losing two friends one died from too many hits to the head; the other sent away cause he killed abusive father...

and yet, I think all in all our youth was better in many ways to what the kids of today face and deal with.... and ironically, they may say the same when they grow up...

hope you don’t mind my long comment Ana, your poems ( even the lighter ones) give me lots to think about and say....

No one says you can't still have them. And if they do, tell me so I can punch them in the throat.
Hell, all of that sounds like fun to me! I bet we can even sell tickets!
I'd buy a lifetime pass.

Kites flying high, that's what I miss and love hearts and sherbet dips. You've sent me on a nostalgia trip Ana with your lovely childhood poem. Thank you for that,.

Thanks for the wonderful comment Chris :)
Back in the day, we boys of summer in Alabama enjoyed a salty bag of Tom's Redskin peanuts poured down the neck of a bottle of Coca Cola. The mix improved the flavor of both.

I have never tried that :)
i'm imagining the taste.
Me too....sigh.
This is lovely Ana. It probably is so lovely that it came in a cream coloured box with red ribbons.
I am so wanting a liquorice swirl right now. And a cream soda...and, my childhood. :)
