Dust in Winter

Dust in Winter

A Chapter by Ana Papaya
"

...

"
No one should die in winter
The ground is too hard
The trees too bare
The flowers all sleeping

I keep you on a shelf
Always waiting for a summer that never arrives
A child of winter you shall forever be
Until I sprinkle your dust into the breeze
And watch as you fly away from me

That last line. 'way' or 'away'... did you do that on purpose?

Anyway, you're right... no one should die alone. Ever. It's a kind of tragedy that sticks and you can never take back. No one should ever have to die alone. That's kinda what civilization is for, to live and die amongst friends. (this was a terrible fart joke)

even as I read these fine words on this sunny summer day, I feel a chill breeze blowing across my back and shoulders.. not sure whether it is calling or pushing me away.. what ever the case might be.. these words are not likely to be forgot....

thanks so much, Neville :)

January is a wicked month, cruel in its coldness. Well at least in my eyes it is. Lost my Dad and my beloved maternal Nan in January., so your lines resonate with me. At least in spring and summer you have flowers to soften the bare ground. Ashes to the wind, yes I can understand waiting for a warmer day. Lovely work with great depth of feeling.

If you are mourning Ana, take care of yourself.

Thanks for that. :)
yes, winter is so harsh, like death it is cold and unforgiving...
i love this piece....
"the trees too bare" they can't even rustle in mourning...
just wow, to this...
and there is even warmth in death in the end...as the ashes are sprinkled into a summer breeze.

Thanks so much Jacob! Really appreciate your comment on this one!
WOW! WOW! And WOW! This shows me how much I've missed seeing you here! I am delighted to see you back. This poem is so thought-provoking becuz the layers of symbols are so complex. One minute I'm thinking "die" as in "stop breathing" . . . the next minute I'm thinking of it as the end of a relationship . . . or the way someone lives on in our minds even tho we wish death of that haunting would come. My thoughts go on & on . . . the sign of an excellent poem! Very powerful writing! Here's hoping you will be able to stick around & delight us more in 2020! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I read Dave's comment saying that nobody should die alone. My step dad did, he was a nasty, vindictive, bullying b*****d who met his maker alone and I'm so, so glad.
Anyways, another beautifully penned piece which has a very sad but calm feel to it.
