the way i bleed
it's f*****g poetry
that's what you want to see
everything dirty and broken in me
all those scenes that capture the eye
all that s**t that f***s the mind
that's poetry
like a sick disease
it rapes me
breaks me
pushes me to my knees
everything salty and raw
this is what you need
and i shouldn't care
what anyone says
sticks and stones
they're all in my head
when i cut it open
and everything's been bled
that's poetry
that's poetry they said

Author's Note

Ana Papaya
Sometimes I shine in the light, sometimes I lounge in the dark.
But I never hide from what I am inside.
Beauty and strength, unrivaled.

funny, ironic as the first poem I read from you is a poem that breaks your heart... life and people are like this, being fascinated with the blood of others, staring at an accident scene, hoping to see the mangled bodies... sometimes we are a very perverted people, with no understanding or empathy for what people goes through in their lives... no, I don't think poetry should be all happy and sweetness and love, but when we do spill our hearts, have the pieces bleed on the page, there should be respect and caring... don't you think Ana??? I loved your poem, not for its open honesty, but because you made me feel each f*****g word... and making someone feel is a biig part of what poetry si all about....

Beauty and strength unrivaled, indeed.
Add to that: frightening amounts of passion, an uncanny ability for honest introspection, and a downright intimidating mastery of evoking emotion through written word.

I hear pride, stubbornness, confidence, and chin-out defiance.
But all resting comfortably under a blanket of honor and principle.

Another shotgun blast to the frontal lobe, from the nation of Anada.

Be interesting to see what happens in January...
hmm not sure how I missed this one? That bleeding is like a drug... it hurts but then it heals us oddly something about the process of airing out the pains and joys does the trick. maybe when we let it out... the things that we hold deeply, we can finally see it from the "place of other" looking at it from outside of the self can take away its power or shine a reverence? I don't know, maybe i'm just rambling... I do that at times:)

The audience would have, as Shakespeare's Portia said, its "pound of flesh". But let us not to the cutting of our own flesh when we can better afford a pound of steak. It's a bloodthirsty world out there.

Yes you are right dear Ana. Us, who love to write. We bleed to paper the good days and the bad days. Now I believe, people love misery, people love miracles and people love a good ending. Thank you my friend for sharing the outstanding poetry. I liked this one.

A outstanding poem and you are welcome Ana.
Well, that is the where the good poetry comes from. Unfortunately, most of the time, it's the s****y stuff that bleeds the best. But you have a ton of cute, fun, upbeat poems somewhere, I've seen them.

Thanks so much Fran Marie!
Very well said, Ana. Its all in the bleeding. Just don't bleed too much or your words become anaemic and nowadays medical supplies are few and far between. Your definition here stands as a beacon of poetic truth. Well conceived.
