shattered pieces of song

shattered pieces of song

A Chapter by Ana Papaya

~•
you are
pieces of shattered songs in my heart
the laughter and tears
  screams echoing my fears

the beautiful music in my ears

you are shattered pieces of song
  compiled
into a soundtrack of my life
    the joys
and moments of pain

a blended mosaic of sound
      capturing everything my heart feels
imaginary and real

like pieces of shattered songs
    framed within my heart

Fantastic. This one really struck a chord of familiarity in my mind. (pun intended) Everything is a song to me; grass growing, leaves changing, birds singing, tumultuous joy and lonely hardship. They are the songs of our lives and in the case of your poem here, the soundtrack seems disrupted by love or the loss of love as so often happens in this grand opus of life. You deal with the situation beautifully in your words though, accepting the joy and the pain as part of your journey and saving the memories, or pieces of them, like heirloom treasures from generations past. May we all learn from our own heart songs. I very much enjoyed reading your poem. Great writing, F.

I have always found that the real problem is, even if one can mend them, they never really sound quite the same ever again...

the love/song analogy works well the way ya writ it here...

So right, Neville. The sound is never the same.
Thanks kindly!
Broken music can be so heartbreakingly lovely. Your words here make feel that. The sound of heartbreak can be symphony too. A very unique poem.

Always a pleasure reading you Ms. Ana.
This reminds me of all those songs shared in love that can sometimes be too painful ever to listen to again Ana. The kind that make you hurdle kitchen tables when heard on the radio, in the futile hope switching it off will ease the ache. It rarely works, and if like me, usually results in catching your shin and crying anyway.
They once sounded like honey, but now you wonder if the jar was broken as the ground glass catches in your throat.
I pretty much blame James Blunt for everything 😀

Good evening Dave, thank you much. :)
I love the structure/visual effect of this poem - it makes me feel the scattered-ness and sort of the jump back and forth between joy/sorrow and imaginary/real. "mosaic of sound" is one of my favorite phrases and also like how the word "heart" actually appears as a frame in the beginning and end. Really good stuff!

You make shattered sound desirable! After reading this, I want shattered songs in my life too! I do understand the shatter of life; it isn't usually perfectly composed. But framed within the heart, it's still a work of art.
