distortion

A Chapter by Ana Papaya
"

.

"
.

I eat quiet until it pours from my ears
distorting sound with careful breaths

           inhaled
exhaled

until their rhythm becomes the hum that rattles my brain
and I know

this cannot mean I am insane

I am simply eating quiet as it swims over my tongue
a mulled stew spiced with bitter sweets

a reminder that these memories are best kept
       (silent)

I do not know what your poem means, but this is what it brings to my mind. I prefer to eat in quiet becuz if I try to do or pay attention to something else, I will end up not even tasting a thing I've eaten, which leads to me wanting to eat again so I can actually experience it. This metaphor reminds me of how many times people are talking on their phones or doing more than one thing at at time instead of paying attention to what's happening in life or in a relationship. Talk is overrated, I've come to learn late in life (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

I think you are referring to something that tastes amazing .. but was made out of numerous ingredients that on their own may be bland or bitter even.. yet collectively.. in a stew for example. and later in one's mouth take on a whole new flavour ... oh' and not telling anyone .. otherwise they might want to try... I may be wrong.. but I did enjoy ... :)

May be right, Neville. Sure does sound good to me. :)
Sounds almost like a form of Buddhist meditation. The speaker is paying total attention to the breath as it goes in and out. There no attempt to force the content of the mind, just to allow it to be exactly what it is and let it go. Never heard of a method called "eating quiet" before, but if it works, go to it.

This is such a fascinating piece. I can not quite put my finger on it what it means, but that makes it so much more intriguing. Enjoy your meal in peace!

Beautiful song.
Even though it's not really a song.
It's still a song.
And it's still beautiful.

see too much of this around our area
we are a destination location and we have our fair share of street corner conversationalists

.............true...............
If we are questioning our own insanity, then we haven't lost it. I know those who had completely lost theirs, thinking everyone else was nuts and they were normal. Some memories are best left well alone. Let them remain silent and buried.

Insane in a sane world.
Just watching people, it's really difficult to tell what's really what.
I sometimes think capturing your own sanity is truly an art though.

Think everybody is moving onto 2021 now.
it's often said that if we are debating whether or not we are insane...then that means we are sane.
