The nursemaid

they brought her home
at half past some
ungodly hour
the nursemaid, you know the one

she cared for the young ones
the wee tots and babes
left upon the doorsteps
of the old orphanage

before they started disappearing
one by
one by
one

and now she's come

they brought her home at half past some
ungodly hour
the nursemaid
yes, the same one

now the babes are all nestled
in their cribs for the night
snuggly wee bugs
tucked in nice n tight

tucked in nice n tight
nice n tight for the night

and the nursemaid keeps watch
never leaving from sight

the nursemaid keeps watch
all through the night

The lady described in this one may be described politely as "troubled." More clinically, she is a delusional schizophrenic person who believes the babies are hers. Hopefully she will be detained and committed before any of the children suffer. The unsettling thing about this work is that there are such people walking among us all the time.

Your nursemaid sounds a little creepy to me. I think she might be squirreling these babes away in an unhealthy way. I love how your repeating lines make this sound like a funeral dirge, spooky, not really about some caring helpful nursemaid as your words might imply on the surface. This gives me an idea of how to write about something I've been noticing about my neighbor. He gets a female visitor, then the visitor disappears but her car remains parked there. This goes on for years until now he's got many cars parked there & no females seen there in a long time. There's got to be something strange going on, just like with this nursemaid! (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Anything sinister regarding kids just creeps me out. What was on her mind? Too dark to contemplate!

Which is why I never hired a nanny. Trust no one!

Sinister and eerie. That nursemaid needs locking up for good. Too many tots and babes gone. Reminds me of Beverly Allitt, a children's nurse who killed her patients. Sends shivers down my spine.

Jeazuz, it is black as the devil's thing-a-ma-jig outside, I read this and now a chill is running up (and down) my spine.
This is one spooky little entry.
That such a thing could exist in your sweet young mind is a mystery?
Should have saved this for Halloween
Johns response was unfortunately sobering
