Silence Unexplained

Silence Unexplained

A Poem by Anand Sehgal

As you keep on embedding long pauses
between your words,
Sometimes I feel you have very little left with you
to speak out.
The moment I start thinking that I would
offer you  solitude as a gift to cherish ,
I hear my name being called silently.

Once again I turn back,
only to listen to you.

I've tried a lot , but I could never snatch away
from you ,
this tiny yet so tight stake you had on me.

Whenever I had thought of cutting this very last string ,
Enthralling reverberations of rumbling
sound prevailed in my mind.
Dreams of placenta have disturbed my sleep many a time.

Every-time  I keep expecting
that, this time indeed, you would break your silence;
you would share with me the experiences,
the truth you learned during self-desolation.

waiting endlessly, the Time loses "melanin",
grows old with grey hair.
We remain the same,
the prehistoric smiling faces,
unfazed, unchanged , unexplored;
just you and me.

Ok. Since you sent this again, I will review it once more.
Sometimes, time will make one's perception of a particular piece evolve - where once I reviewed this from the stance of a bystander, I am now living it.
We all have to go through it, I guess. People come and go. Perhaps, these are moments that jar us from our sense of complacency to find lessons each relationship - as each begins and ends.
At the end of the day, we only have ourselves to face and figure out if we have become who we were destined to be or not… and the silence will be unexplained no more.

This is a very sad poem .Sometimes parents don't know how to be loving and speak with their children. We wait for the day when they will hold our hand and talk to us as adults but it does not happen.Great poem Anand :)

You are welcome Anand.Always a pleasure :)
Silence is hard on a relationship and it creates building tensions between two people. Thoughts and feelings churn and rise --the actions maybe violent.

yes, silence indeed prepares the stage for a storm. Silence is like the gun-powder.
The inability to cut strings that bind and don't really know if you want to do so or if it will help at all. Thank you for exploring these feelings...

Glad that you liked it. Thank you so much.
Silence can be a very worrying thing in the context of a relationship, be it romance or friendship or familial. I can only say that I relate to this one on a number of levels. Great work, one of your best

thanks a lot my dear , Love :)
It's hard for me to write down my reaction to your powerfully moving poem, Anand. In her last days my mother's mind was gone and she could no longer speak. How I wished I could talk to her, but she could not understand me if I did. I feel the disconnection that you describe in your heart wrenching poem. You are unquestionably a very gifted poet.
