Remembering Baltimore or was it London ...Rotterdam... Istanbul... Kin... Tokyo... L.A. - New York... yesterday...tomorrow

"Shadowland..."

Do you know what it's like

to sit by the window - each night,

just to wait in the neoned dark

gazing out into the tenements,

streets criss-crossed with shadows

moving, swaying, drawing

all - as you listen and listen for  ...her...

her to start singing -

singing so softly into her echoing night

singing with a lil girl’s heart

and a woman's soul flowing through the words

the tones

the moments, all the dreams - silly nothing wishes.

Open fingers reaching toward the sky

reaching for the unseeable stars -

and the sheer sound within the words of her knowing

KNOWING it ain’t gonna be -

can’t be,

won’t be

neverever ever …be

BUT …she still flies in the streetlights

and dances to neon rainbows

and holds me here

forever captive of her dreams.

well, I doubt I am going to say anything to original here but I am moved in my spirit by the idea of her. I am enchanted by your poetry...I find it takes me somewhere else though it could be nowhere but here. I just want to repeat this one...to hear it again and again. lovely doesn't cover it!

This is so beautiful and sad and dreamy. I like the last four lines, how she becomes almost an idea and a part of everything down to the moths casting shadows. Could be well off but thats what it makes me think of. Seems so lonely waiting and watching with all thats going on around

Interesting read.... Beautiful narration of life in "Shadowland". Enjoyed reading though "KNOWING it ain’t gonna be - can’t be, won’t be neverever ever …be"

I love the title to the poem....how many nights have we all sat in shadowlands? Poetry that touches the heart of one that reads it and sure to help one who makes another visit.....to shadowland. Nice ink!

What a profoundly enriching vision found in these dark places; these shadowlands. Beautiful and biting dreams merge into one place and try to hold you captive. So stunning.
