"A Time For Us…"

 

A moment.

Our moment,

your moment,

my …moment…

 

It is Thanksgiving Day morning.  

A day of remembrance - 

  celebration?

  …and pause…

  of good and bad; 

  coming-of-age; 

  surviving past nows; 

reliving memories 

  of family, 

  of friends, 

  of people

    - with

    - without, 

  of lives touched

    and touching;

  of places 

    - some (even all)

        seen, 

        imagined, 

          perhaps just the wished for; 

  for happenings 

    - that did, 

    -  didn't.  

 

Thanksgiving - a day

for

so many, many realities dreamed of

  along-the-ways, 

  found 

  - avoided 

  - lived.

 

The MOST personal day of our year.

Treat it well -

It IS about who YOU are …after all.

Good poem Chris .I always loved Thanksgiving when I was younger families getting together and eating that good food and laughing and talking. bringing people together for one day. Now that I'm older that doesn't seem to happen much anymore.

A "Thanksgiving Day" is when we have time to think upon and remember things we needed to think about - so essentially any day we awaken to our present and can all too clearly remember that our past might feel like tomorrow.

On this side of the pond, these things have been superceded shamefully. And nobody gives a that's tail. We don't even teach the history in our schools anymore. Why? I wish I knew. Thank you for remembering the important things.

So many (on any side of the "pond") celebrate or berate "holidays". It IS personal - has to be; but, the intent behind and during most designated 'holidays' is also meant to be personal. Life isn't fair, never has been... but people? We each choose our paths with every step ...every morning.

You are correct. But it is never good when a people turns their collective back on their history. Thanksgiving is a day rooted in the founding of our culture. My daughter didn't even know who the Puritans were! But you are right. We must all choose our own way in life. May Plymouth forgive her wayward children.
