"Silence..."

"Silence..."

A Poem by Chris
"

When silence isn't...

"

Silence isn't quiet
gentle
soft
empty...

It isn't fragile
compliant
complacent
and loving...

It isn't golden
nor treasured
or held with dream's delight...

...for some.

"Silence..."

Silence is noise so loud you can't hear.
Its the volume of the anger in another's eyes,
the distance a broken heart FALLS
til it reaches the rocks it shatters
SOUND-LESS-LY
as it disintegrates through them.

Silence is the crowded room
  you can only exist within;
the walls you didn't build -

surrounding, enclosing... tightening, strangling.

Silence is the sound of footsteps you never heard...
just wished,
and the echo inside -
of feeling the hand you hadn't held.

Silence is the tear as it forms
behind, within, and infront of your eye
for only reasons YOU know
or never knew...
until
the silence
IS

you.

This is a very insightful poem that shows how silence haunts us. Silence is the road not yet taken, the possibility ignored that haunts one like a ghost. We’ll take that other path in some other life.

silence is devastating when it comes down to it...all that we can't hear yet hurts us the loudest...the tear, the broken heart....and someday...we become what we don't hear...

you amaze me...you are a well of endless ideas...and poems that are and always will remain timeless.

i really like the "hand you hadn't held"

i need a couple aspirin now...i have a headache from the lack of noise.

I am one of those people that silence can be deafening....my mind has a difficult time not talking to itself. I think for most it takes practice to deal with ones own self. Great poem with a sharp point...felt it in the ribs.

that's a huge silence, man...all tangled with loss, and what wasn't lost because it never quite arrived, and footsteps that didn't tell you they were leaving...a real sadderday

well versed. silence isn't just the lack of sound. as an insightful poet you let us see it's also, maybe more so, a condition, a situation, way of feeling.
