Too Late

Too Late

A Poem by JamesK
"

I know this one isn't very good, but it describes a lot of who i am.

"
"I love you" She says
And old wounds are reopened.
Yet he lets her go on
His minds warning unnoticed.

Friends, then more?
Dating, perhaps?
In the end just three words
Will ruin it all.

Infatuation, Consternation,
Lust slowly dissolves trust.
A caution preserved, justly deserved
A lonely smile, so he stays a while.

But for how long can he wait?
Can she persevere for a full year?
6 more months to test her resolve
What might happen is his greatest fear.

Too long he has waited
For want not to say, but to feel
That feeling from before
Impossible to ignore.

Too long has he waited,
And now that he thinks it is true
He finds he can't say it
Three words, "I love you"

I like this one too. Sad, but very true for so many people, and you get it across well. You're a wonderful writer, and I love reading what you've shared :) Good job!
