Shatter, Break and Breath

You are stronger than you realize

One day you will shatter

glass secrets and paper thin walls 

you hide yourself behind.

The real you will emerge.

Broken,

with every piece falling

into exactly the right spot.

Breathing will finally be easy.

You will search for the fingerprints 

of the person you left behind

and find your canvas blank and waiting.

Shadows will dance alongside you.

Not latch onto the weight of your shoulders

trying to shove you back against the halls

of every door you shut getting out of that house of cards.

Smile and let the cards fall;

Because one day you will break.

You will break,

and every chain you have wrapped around your body like a steel promise

will crash against the pavement;

Carve out cracks like pathways

and knock away the dust that has covered your heart.

When people see you,

you will shatter them as well.

They will clutch are their chests,

torn and tattered,

and realize what was there all along.

Consequence and tragedy,

and every bit as in control as they could possibly imagine.

Shatter.

Break.

Breath.
