I am not just a body.

I am not just a body.

A Poem by Angeliki Largatzis

I am not just a body..

I have felt pain
greater than these razor sharp nails
that burrow deep into my flesh,

My chains are merely wisps of silk

not the anchors you think confine me
like weights to this earth..

I am as weightless as you are intense
with your words of abuse and heavy hands,

My feet know not just one direction
but thousands of crossroads, paths and short cuts

I harbor not just a heart of hate and self loathing
for my passion burns brighter
than the embers of a flame,

and my loyalty is the push against one's back
when the courage is needed..

I am not just a body,
that lays cold within a coffin

I am everything you breathe, I am everywhere.

I liked this poem. Had the feel of a Native American poem.
"My feet know not just one direction
but thousands of crossroads, paths and short cuts"
The above lines are true. We never know the journey of another. The flow of the thoughts were amazing and I liked the ending. Thank you dear Angeliki for sharing the amazing poetry.

Your poem transforms in meaning, as I read on. One minute I'm thinking one thing, a few lines later, I've been sparked to a completely different way of thinking about this. Being a literal person, I am reluctant to write a train of thought that drifts like this, but I love the effect it has when each new section of the poem brings a whole new set of ideas to ponder. In the end, I believe this could be one's own body speaking to oneself . . . possibly pointing out all the ways we restrict or contort ourselves into thinking we are our bodies (we're much more than that, of course, as you imply). Here's hoping you & yours are well (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
