The Lighthouse Keeper

The Lighthouse Keeper

A Poem by Anima Inspired
"

Something I wrote after spending a day at a nearby lighthouse and musing...

"

Somewhere beneath the waves
of the restlessly crashing deep,
memories hide like sea-glass
upon a shore of pebbles…

The essence of her, set free
to ride the backs of frothy breakers,
draws him to the waters edge
where he might spend a lifetime
tending lighthouse flames
in contemplation of her absence.

Remembering is his only salvation,
the bright beacon in a world
of fog banks and unprotected shores,
where he sails his own ocean of regret
while forever searching the horizon
for her luminous eyes.

I liked this! Lighthouses always make a great subject to write about!

I love the way 'memories hide like sea-glass upon a shore of pebbles.' Making the reader hope for a miracle before the story even begins. Sometimes the answer is indeed, just under the surface. You captured the essence of frustrated longing verrrrry well. Good stuff.

A tale of a man who has lost his love and is doing all he can to seek salvation for letting her go.

As sad as it is, it's also extremely beautiful. You are a wonderful poet, and very innovative. Wish I had thought of it, but you wrote it better than I could anyways. Superb work.

Too beautiful, too wonderfully tragic yet uplifting. It's a search, a longing so precious, it would be a life spent in meaning, even without conclusion.
This one's definitely going into my favorites. There it will stay, to give me such feeling as I could never explain.
