A tribute to the white coat

A tribute to the white coat

A Poem by Anjeline

Burning down the zodiac years of their lives to achieve something ,
They are awake even at the witching hour to rush at the beck and call of a ring
Betraying their beloved they indulge in an affair with the Stethoscope
Entering inside the dissection hall they too have a number of fears to cope.
But even after struggling with all of it what do they get in return ?
To be specific -" they do nothing all day " and " its a profession of coins " are the exact terms.
They say- "the doctors have no interest in the life and death of a patient as they do it just for the money"
But saying this - aren't you evaluating your breaths with some bits of paper , honey ?

Breaking all ties with names , relations and religions they always give their best to save a life
As coming out of the operation theatre they have to face the hopeful eyes of parents, children and a wife.
With altruism as their religion , a path of humanity they pave
Wearing the apron of pride they work with the belief -"that it makes a difference to the one I save".

Author's Note

•Altruism- behavior of doing selfless work for others.
This poem is not intended to offend someone. It's just a attempt to alter the thinking of some people that, there are always good and bad people in every profession but because of them we should not disrespect every person related to it.

this is all very interesting .. from personal experience, there will always be the good ones & the not so good ones .. bad ones are usually in the minority and downright evil ones are very scarce indeed .. the same formula seems to apply to almost all walks of life, profession and domains .. a thought provoking read my friend ..... you are most welcome, my pleasure entirely .. Neville :)
I have run into a couple doctors who fit into this poem perfectly. It's business and I am a statistic.
But luckily, I have had several doctors who seem to have true compassion and care for their patients and would probably do it for free.
and yes, there are good and bad people in every profession...those who just help to help and those who do so for many other reasons, non-altruistic.

Thank you so much for the review, it's much appreciated.
I have to say, I've never heard the attitudes you describe in your poem. Here in the USA, most people never EVER mention the $$$ a person makes, in regards to the "everyday professions" -- people discuss millionaires & billionaires with scorn, perhaps, but for all the people who have ordinary jobs, nobody ever gets criticized that they're doing it for the money! Being a nurse or a doctor in the USA doesn't make anyone rich, except maybe the few specialist doctors who make it big. So for these reasons, I love reading your poem becuz it's full of rich, everyday details so we get the feel of how things are in a different culture. I totally agree with you, those in the medical profession are to be admired for their courage, facing down death every day, really. (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie

Thanks a lot for your review💙
Dear Angeline, I read this wonderful tribute the other day, but alas ran out of time to leave a comment. I have returned to read again. Over recent weeks I have seen the selfless work our own NHS Doctors are giving to preserve the life of very sick people. They are dedicated and do this at their own risk. Sadly covid has taken many a Doctor from his loved ones and we have also lost many nurses and health and social care workers. It is indeed a tragedy of immense proportion. Each Thursday evening at 8.00p.m. we clap in the streets (at a safe distance) for those who are putting their lives at risk to save others. thank you for writing these lines. They are much appreciated. Take care dear friend.

Here some doctors are getting affected by the virus while serving their Corona positive patients, sadly, one doctor even died.
Dreaming to be a doctor and being that in real both keep a vast difference between them. They could've stepped back but they march forward against any diseases or epidemic or pandemic.
Although my words are not enough, I thank them in my prayers.
Indeed a great write Anjeline!

Certainly doctors and nurses in Britain are laying down their lives to save people.
I suppose its times like this we really value our medical people, real heroes.
