How to Love Yourself

How to Love Yourself

A Story by Anna Parker

This is an article I wrote for an old blog. I find that the points still ring true. I would love to hear your thoughts! Anna Parker, Writer/Networker at Crowd Storyz

People sometimes underestimate the importance of self-love. Others write it off as vanity or narcissism. However, it is actually one of the most important things we need to maintain because we cannot fully love others if we don’t love ourselves. Below are three ways that will help you increase your self-love, TRY the ones that you feel most comfortable with.

Stop comparing yourself to others.

Our biggest insecurities come from looking at what others look like or what they have done. Often, that is when the negative comparison starts, followed by feeling sorry for ourselves. This is not only bad for you, but it can also affect your relationships. The best way to avoid this is to make a list of all the positive qualities you have, and then when you start feeling down, you can take a quick peek at it.

You should always try to remove negative comparison from your life, but sometimes we crave the need to be better than someone else. To remedy this, start comparing who you are today, with the person whom you were yesterday. This way you can feel the progress of improvement, without the damaging effects of judging others.

Start complimenting yourself.

Take a few minutes in the mirror each day to compliment or be thankful for, a few of your features. For example, say things like: “I love my eyes.”,  or “Girl, you are really rocking your body today.” It might sound like the most narcissistic thing you could do, but please try it! It will not only make you feel better, but it will also help you discover more things to love about yourself.

Start being the person who you truly want to be!

We all want to become something, whether it is a better version of ourselves or a total transformation. Often, though, we tell ourselves that we can never become who we want to be, so we never try. The truth is, we can be whomever we want, only if we choose to become that person.

Hi, Anna 😊
That's some grrreat advice for us all!

The three steps to loving oneself make perfect sense, and seem to come from someone who's "Been there, done that!" … which, in my mind's-eye, lends it sincere, legitimate, and meaningful credibility.
Even though, from your picture, you're very pretty, it's obvious you're not just another pretty face, but a highly conscious, intelligent person with much to offer. Thank you, Anna, most gratefully for sharing your knowledge, keen understanding of human nature, and experience with us in your nicely presented, grammatically correct, and highly effective treatise, with an excellent artwork choice, as-well. I'm sure many here will highly appreciate your efforts … I know I do.

I wish you a very warm and happy welcome to the Café, Anna … I hope you'll enjoy it here and make this your second home.
You may note ads peppering your screen. If so and they're bothersome, the solution will be quite simple. Go here: AdBlock, https://getadblock.com and activate AdBlock for your browser … it's free and easy, and most onsite have already been using it for a long time.

Even though I am but a simple poet, I hope you will accept my friendship request, and afterward, drop by my place for some great poetry reads. See? Your messages have worked … I love myself already. 😏
I'm so very happy to meet You! Hope to see ya soon, Anna ⁓ Richard 🍃
