Hail the new Queen

Hail the new Queen

A Poem by Anne Martin
"

The new reign begins

"

Splick, splock, splort
drink some port
report to the higher command
demand recompense

no defense

my preference for some
it has begun to grate
crudity for crudité
crude crud befuddling

no cuddling

d****t, I'm alone
on my throne
my vanquished predecessor
still licking his wounds

still licking something, anyway

the man upstairs, no,
the woman upstairs
has my back, Jack
relentless sarca-wit

no shirt, no shoes

the way I like it, lump it
dump it, Mr Limpet
don't be so frumpy, grumpy
my pinnacle of doom

my empty room

touches the distant sky
through cirrus clouds
amber night-glow
incandescent

reminiscent

watch the throng below
a mass forgetting, I'm betting
repeating the lies
like an old recording

a loop gesture

ignore the jester
with bad posture
and no conscience
live our defiance

hail the new queen
