Being Happy

Being Happy

A Poem by Anuradha Verma

"You will be happy", I whisper to the mirror, after yet again losing something I never had.
"You will be happy", I try to quell my envy.
"You will be happy", I soothe my beating heart, after jolting out of a nightmare. "You will be happy", I beg my abrupt tears to stop. "You will be happy." I push away loneliness. But some days, they rear back and demand, "When?" The mirror shatters, envy boils over, heartbeat goes wild, nightmares swallow me whole, tears make an ocean, loneliness wraps me in its embrace and I, am silent.
