Tarnished Gold

Tarnished Gold

A Poem by Rose

Tarnished Gold

Once you had riches; we both had our place.
Once you had gold, but I was so alone.
For days on end I saw your handsome face.
I was not bold, for you were on a throne.

All days and nights were filled with dreams of you;
I could not focus on the simplest task.
I wished for you to walk into my view.
I felt I was hiding behind a mask.

You started looking as wan as I felt;
Your cheer and merriment grew less and less.
One day you looked at me and made me melt.
Your eyes held sorrow, pain, and loneliness.

We met and Cupid’s arrow did not miss;
We saved each other with our loving kiss.
