Red Ledger

Red Ledger

A Poem by Chris Jones

Red Ledger

I have RED in my ledger for all the world to see

And its sickening Crimson discomforts me

For how can I talk about someone else?

When I can’t even manage to fix myself?

Maybe I’m not supposed to talk;

‘Till I myself can walk the walk

But I see so much immorality around my soul.

And its dark intensity fills me with deep woe

Out of all the sins,  that I’ve seen in others

I find myself naked without cover

For behind my smile and gentility

Lies a greater sense of vanity

So it seems that I’ll have to stay silent forever

Or at least till remove the RED from my ledger
