Death by Ego

Death by Ego

A Poem by Archishman Rick

Beneath all the unscrupulous whims of the world,
Death by ego lurks deep down in the dark quarry,
Futile efforts of rescue with every sweet word,
Serve but dessert to those that feign feeling sorry.

There lived a child with a silver spoon as they say,
Headstrong father spending fortunes in the belief,
That his greying streaks would glitter on that bright day,
The lad takes his reigns and lets him lie in relief.

The wealth that spurred the boy's growth taught him the hard way,
How borrowed pride gently picks clear conscience apart,
Between ruthless riches and voiceless grievance to weigh,
Honour was tested and lessons learnt in his rich heart.

A true purpose which transcends being mighty and high,
Through a worthy play awaiting curtains of glory,
In lieu of death by ego yielding pitiless sighs,
Separates a trifling tale from a solemn story.

Now either I am seeing a connection here that I have made up, which is allowed, because I am awesome, or I have missed the point entirely and see a correlation in your words to what I have been seeing, albeit less prosaic like a and stuff, for years...
... and that is, that if all the millennial are right and we are all as special as they delude themsel elves to be, then doesn't that just make everyone plain, ordinary and average?
Now I know what you're thinking, "well that's a bit rich coming from someone who proclaimed earlier that he is awesome, but that was said in a futile attempt at humour and I've met a lot of these" snowflakes", which in calling them "snowflakes" might get me oh shock horror, cancelled, whatever that means, but I just don't find many of them amusing at all, or even with a sense of humour at all, so maybe calling them delusionists wouldn't hurt their self deluding ego as much.... but if there was ever going to be a perfect name for them, then snowflakes would win that competition by a distance indeed. 😊
Now, you can take my opinion as seriously or frivolously as you like, but remember, I am way too old to be a snowflake, so I must be awesome! 😊

A superbly inked poem on the evils of Ego which is the driving force of so many human beings. The father in the poem I feel was a man of pride as well as Ego, but I feel that the sun was of a humble nature, having seen and learned from his father and had noble causes in mind and I feel that is what separated the son from his father. The son earned his riches the hard way, but he was noble, honest and direct. It is always advisable to slay Ego, its falseness, its pride, its excessive sense of self importance do nothing to enhance a human life. A wonderful poem with a moral for the reader. I like this poem very much and a very grateful Thank You! for sharing it...

Most welcome always, Rick... Thank you again for sharing...
Many a fortune was amassed by ego driven individuals. It appears the boy's father was one of these. It appears the boy learned from his father's mistakes, and will avoid letting his ego direct him. Thus will he avoid a life driven by ego.

This to me evokes the days of the Raj and Kipling. I may be way off but I can feel the unearned privilage and discrepancies that exist, one would assume even yet. Whatever it is a superb write.
