Damn the Cautious Glance

Damn the Cautious Glance

A Chapter by Archia

I found them sitting together, talking. They never just sat and talked. Mum was either running around, and Dad was shouting at her for not doing enough work. Yet here they were, just sitting and talking. I caught Mum’s eye and she motioned for me to come. There was a smile on her face, a tear in an eye. Mum sat me on her lap, shot a glance at Dad when he went to reach for me. I was curious, ideas were rushing through my head. Dad took a gulp. A cracked smile. Opposite to the one on Mum’s lips. Dad was talking, mumbling, rambling. Mum took over. I smiled, they looked at me cautiously. They were breaking up.
