Forgotten River

Forgotten River

A Poem by Sheik
"

After a young man's tragic death, he descends to the underworld and drinks from the Lethean River. When the woman he loves dies as well she sees that he has forgotten her but tries not to forget him.

"

Verse 1

Why should I seek thy riverine

Lest I were wont to forget?

Haste not thy tempting to me.

From my ignorance thou shalt forfeit.

Chorus

He is but a ghost.

I know it in my heart.

For I was since froze

And shattered into shards.

So now I am just pieces of broken glass.

Bridge

My eyes are lost in placidness.

Thou see I naught pray for less.

Though I come near to dip my hands,

I must still fear the cost that does stand.

Verse 2

When I go down to thy side

Silvery water whispers to me.

Come to me thou sayest from the tide.

I shalt not grant thee his last memory.

I think the river survives on memories...therefore it tries to entice all who approach it. The woman's heart was shattered by her love...leaving her in pieces. I also sense the woman is undecided about losing the memory of him...and therefore is cautious in her approach. The language is suitable considering the mythological reference.
