Tears of Goodbye

no words can express the pain of leaving behind part of your heart to begin a new chapter forced by time

There are so many words
I can reach out and grasp but
none of them come to me
None are capable of conveying
the pain that I feel
my heart splitting in two
hanging by a
thread of memories,
faded with time
stained by tears.

I can't stop the tears that speak
in my silence
these words that I have found
evade me;
I can only open my heart
to let you see the pain I feel
my tears stinging skin
as silence fills our ears.

I know that there is no end
to this pain even after
we have forgiven.
Clinging on to memories,
hoping they will never change.
Afraid of forgetting the past,
small moments we have cherished.

Yet wanting to forget;
wishing that it was easy to turn around,
change ourselves and erase the footprints
you have left.
Desperately trying to say goodbye
and break these chains
that were never meant to tie, to
turn away from
your light.

There is little to no background to this so it comes off as kind of a vague personal poem but that's part of writing too I suppose. I don't understand why you've isolated prepositions?

Thanks for your honest advice. Vague personal poem probably describes this really well, but it was also the reason I wrote it. I never really meant to publish it, but ended up doing so. I did notice the line spacing broke up the poem oddly, but I got distracted halfway through editing it (which is why it's not every two lines towards the end)😌. I'll fix that as soon as I can. Thanks again, I really appreciate your advice!
