Expectations

Expectations

A Poem by Arundass TP
"

Very few blooms

"
When the rope of isolation tighten
Mind crawls like a spider
Jumps to the far away future
Connecting with colorful thin threads
Making patterns so beautiful
Expect the best, chances;
Predators eye falls on
Cutting and rampaging the patterns
Realises, those cobwebs are not real
The present stands still
Moving unnoticed
Crawling through strange paths
Forbidden for ones desires

Ah yes, the mind will crawl like a spider when isolated. What a great concept this poem is. Isolation has affected us in ways we were never exposed to before. How disappointing it can be to have hopes suddenly dashed the way they were today for people in the UK knowing they must remain in lockdown.

This is a strong poem that touches the emotions and reminds the reader of feelings they to must have felt in the past. Lets hope the future is brighter for all of us, whether affect by covid-19 or any other impediment to happiness.

I've had many unrealistic expectations and it lead to pain but at the same time.. I think being able to fantasize about different outcomes is fun and can be beautiful. I just try not to get so caught up in my daydreams.

I felt like time stopped for a moment and the only motion was the spider. I enjoy reading time loops the way you brought that around. The mind is a forest with so many species of spiders it's scary!!!

Isolation can inflict physical and mental harm. I think I would fear the mental harm more. A mind tangled with wayward thoughts and no one to help unravel them. A prisoner of one's own mind. A strong write here Arundass, conveted well.

Yes the real truth of isolation, one can only crawl, as nowhere to go... In physical or emotional plane. Like spider spinning of thin rope is the only hope to jump from this degenerated state. But those threads are unreal.
As future is uncertain so does the thin ropes, always in the shadow of fear.A good piece in this time of isolation

As for me, this feels like a great commentary on how we perceive dreams. The question your poem asks is can our dreams be realised? . The answer to this pokes around at the reality of dreams, dreams really create an escapist world in our minds. It could be argued that we aim to project our dreams, pass them onto the present. Projection in your poem is best explained in lines 7-9. Then some time after that you touch upon, well the ever moving churn of dreams ( at least from a global perspective), millions of humans have dreams, many on their own paths(strange paths) , many put short. In summary very well put together and quite succinct 😊

It is easy to see everything potentially through the lens of the imposed viral isolation of the last year, but in a broader sense, I felt your poem spoke to something deeper. Our minds gravitate to what is familiar and in front of them repetitively, or alternatively to newness that is captivating. Both can create unhealthy consequences if our responses are not properly tempered. That was what your poem said to me.

I love your use of the spider and web here to reach toward your idea. It’s creative and stirring and really helped me to connect your ideas. This is a great poem.

Thanking you for review, friend
Your poem reminds me of when I was naive about social interactions online. I was suckered in by some of the most dramatic storytellers . . . looking back, I can't believe I believed so much BS. There are so many threads that cannot be seen, invisibly tangling online friendships/relationships . . . and nowadays with many forced into an isolated social existence, I can imagine the hard lessons hitting the vulnerable (((HUGS))) Fondly, Margie
