writers block

A Poem by Ashly Christen
"

blocked, but scratching the surface

"

I sit here and stare at this page, hoping that somehow the words will come to me, hoping that somehow they will find me. Like long lost lovers that have been apart, I am here waiting with twitching fingers, waiting for a line to set them free.

It really is like a drug, letting the words flow, though the flow tends to get blocked like a damn clogged with logs. Send me a beaver to gnaw through these wicked woods I find in my way, let me float again on the lazy river of words, with inspiration flowing gently below.

Come to me again my love and let my find comfort in your lips. Let me touch your curves and feel the sting of the tip of your pen. I have lost you but I swear I will find you again.

send me a metaphorical beaver to gnaw the logs...and break through this writer's block...

oh yes, the best way to break writer's block is to write about it.

i like the part about the two lovers...

cause for me, the muse has been like a lover...for 40 years...can't live with it, can't live without it...i love it sometimes and hate it others.

it compels me to write, sometimes when i absolutely don't want to.

I sense the feeling of writers block, but when i read it through your words seem to reach within. It doesn't seem as writers block is an issues. It seems it depends on what you are writing is reflecting the issue.

It's a splendid verse. I have read articles on "writer's block", but never a poem about it. It is original. It spurs the writers and readers to acknowledge the fact that its presence cannot be denied. A distinctive relationship between the writer/narrator and the words have been depicted. One can sense the romantic involvement between the two because the writer has intense and passionate love for writing. The unique similes "like long lost lovers that have been apart", "like a dam clogged with logs," and more are striking. The use of symbolism in the middle stanza and the rhymes here and there are admirable. I love how you have used elements of nature throughout it. Some spelling mistakes are detectable. But, those can be lightly considered, as your verse has a special quality to it, and its meaning is clear.

The Muse can be an elusive pain sometimes, then other times it seems to drown us in inspiration... when blocked the first place to look is within the heart. This was very creative in itself.

You should read my last poem, it is called Blame it on the Muse which fits into this realm.
