Haunted

Haunted

A Poem by Ash

Sudden
Oh so surprising
The glare of the broken wristwatch
A sole reminder of love
The only love I had ever known.

Dwarfs running around the front lawn,
Lovingly their progenitors,
Observed from behind the glass.
Their universe, such perfection was alluring.
Sudden
Oh so surprising

Eyes welling up. Unable to dry till today .
Decades passed seem like just yesterday.
Only in my reflection can I see
The eyes of my sister, that were identical to my mothers.
The smile as everyone pointed, just like my fathers.
Hair like the darkest and thickest branches of a tree, passed on through him from generations.

The blue colored watch, the last thing my  mother gifted,
in her joking attempts to make me punctual,
Now lies dead, on my left arm,
stuck since that day, reading 3:23 pm.

Surviving is the worst agony.
Manmade Fireballs from the sky dicentrigated everything.
Planes deafened us,
The smoke blinding.
Fleeing felt like betraying.
Watching them burn was maddening.
Dead bodies i wish i could unsee.
Their screams terrifying, till today echoing.

The dead baby buried in the sea,
found refuge in not brething.
"At least he'll be safe in heaven"
Thought the woman in the corner of the nauseous boat,
Rocked back and forth, herself, she kept comforting.
My six year old eyes stared at all the surviving dead faces
Lonlilenss feels like a cruel punishment for ever smiling.

What did I do wrong?
What did we do wrong?
Was it a sin? On that land being born.
Was it a mistake, to belive, that being humans gave us the right to be home?

Hard to say real meaning. I feel the story in the poetry had some myth and tale. Real life places and thoughts also. I liked the ending. Felt more myth than tale. I liked the questions asked in the poetry. Thank you Ash for sharing the excellent poetry.

You are welcome Ash.
A nice poem explaining one' s memories, attachment and love for the lost loved one..
When we lose our dear ones that too in sudden tragic happenings, the memories haunt us for ever..
It is quite understandable and the last questions are very natural and keep posing every now and then..
A very well crafted write..thanks for sharing..

Indeed. Thank you for reviewing!
I feel as if your telling diferent parts of one story, both from one view and yet maybe two. Reading the first part, my mind insantly jumped to a death of a loved one, into the second part, where I felt like it was both you as you were then and someone else watching kids run and play outside. The third part, felt like both you as you are now and you as you were back then, remembering the best and keeping the memories of your fmaily alive in your mind and heart. The fourth part, feeling that maybe you feel like you should have been somewhere else that morning/day, or your family should have. The fith part, brought me back to 9/11, and feeling like you were helpless but also frozen with fear. The sixth part, of maybe taking a journey somewhere to start a new life. The final part, it seems like you are partly blaming yourself for what happend and for surviving.

Oh thank you so much
Wow! First off, super good poem. Also I think it may have been about how lonely someone must feel after losing a loved one. But sometimes I'm not very good at interpreting things.
